Flaxseed oil for hair: benefits and how to apply

Our grandmothers knew about the medicinal and cosmetic properties of flaxseed oil and used the oil both internally and externally for hair. By applying linseed oil internally (filling cereals or salads), the hair is strengthened from the inside and not only the hair, the skin condition also improves. But, before using linseed oil inside, you must definitely read the contraindications, there is a rather large list of them, and external use of the oil has no contraindications, except for individual intolerance, and gives a very good result, it is especially noticeable on dry and damaged hair.

  • one of the few oils that is suitable for both oily scalp and dry;

When choosing linseed oil, give preference to unrefined cold-pressed oil.

Flaxseed oil can be simply heated in a water bath and applied neat to the hair and kept for as long as possible (at least 30 minutes), such a homemade hot hair wrap that can be done once a week, or you can add oil to homemade hair masks.

Mask number 1

  • 2 tablespoons of flaxseed oil;
  • 1 yolk;
  • half a teaspoon of Dimexide;
  • 3-5 drops of orange essential oil (mint, lemon, lavender).

The oil can be heated, add yolk, essential oil and dimexide to it. Apply the mask to the scalp and distribute along the length, insulate, leave for one hour, then wash your hair as usual.

Mask No. 2

  • 1 teaspoon of avocado oil;
  • 1 teaspoon of flaxseed oil;
  • 1 tsp honey;
  • 2 teaspoons of aloe juice or aloe extract in ampoules (sold in a pharmacy);
  • 5 drops of vitamin A in oil;
  • 5 drops of vitamin E in oil;
  • 1 yolk.

Mix all the ingredients and you can warm up to a comfortable temperature. Apply the mask to the roots (make a light massage) and spread over the entire length. Hold the mask for about an hour and wash off with shampoo, such a mask can be done once a week.

Mask No. 3

  • half a glass of kefir;
  • 2 tablespoons of flaxseed oil;
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 5-8 drops of essential oil.

Heat the oils, add kefir and essential oil to them. Apply the mask to the scalp, and then distribute along the length. You need to keep from 40 minutes to an hour.

Mask No. 4

  • 1 tablespoon of flaxseed oil
  • 1 tablespoon of brandy;
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 egg yolk.

Mix all the ingredients in a glass container (you can warm it up). Apply to scalp and hair, before washing, keep for at least 40 minutes, then wash your hair as usual.

Mask No. 5

  • 1 tablespoon of flaxseed oil
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Depending on the length of the hair, the amount of oil can be changed. Mix the oils in a glass container and heat in a water bath. Apply the mask before washing your hair, for at least an hour, you can insulate it with plastic wrap, and put on a warm hat on top, then wash your head as usual.

Contraindications before using linseed oil inside

  • taking antiviral and sedative drugs;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • combination with hormonal oral contraceptives;
  • pancreatitis;
  • hepatitis;
  • cholelithiasis;
  • cholecystitis;
  • hypertension;
  • atherosclerosis;
  • the presence of swollen and cysts;
  • children under five years old.
