Home care for curly and frizzy hair

Curly hair is often dry, porous, splits more and at times looks dull, but if you work out a few rules for such hair and choose the right care, then it will become a dignity for every girl. So I, until I had developed a systematic approach to caring for my hair, considered it a real problem and looked with envy at girls whose hair was even, elastic and did not stick out in different directions. Once upon a time someone said that you need to turn your shortcomings into your advantages, and I decided that I needed to somehow tame my hair and turn it into my advantage, so I share my best practices with you.

The main rule of care for hair of any type: for the beauty and health of hair, you need systematic and comprehensive care for life.

Regular care for curly hair

I have developed for myself simple systematic rules (which many know) of regular care for curly hair, which should be adhered to throughout my life:

  1. With my weight of 50 kg, I drink 1.5 liters of clean water every day, sometimes I replace part with green tea or water infused with raisins (very useful by the way).
  2. Try to stick to the right diet, eat more vegetables, herbs and fruits, and less - fried, salty and fatty. I focus on baked, boiled and steamed dishes.
  3. Include healthy hair products in the diet: nuts (any), sesame seeds, bran, honey, fish, broccoli, pumpkin, beef liver, kefir, hard cheese. I just try to add at least one of these foods to my meals every day.
  4. Introduced vegetable oils into the daily diet: sunflower, olive, and especially pumpkin, linseed and sesame oils. Naturally, they must be unrefined and cold pressed.
  5. Twice a year I drink vitamins in courses, it can be complex vitamins for hair, or I take B vitamins, biotin, iron, zinc, folic acid, vitamin C, collagen separately. Today the pharmacy has a huge selection of vitamins and minerals, and you can read reviews about them on the Internet.
  6. I also make homemade vitamins from products for health and hair growth, you can see the recipe here, it is not at all complicated and these vitamins strengthen not only the hair, but the entire body.
  7. Once every two weeks, and sometimes once a month, I do a scalp peeling, a very necessary procedure. I used to do home scrub, based on sea salt and oils, and now it's easier for me with a purchased one, there is not much difference, each of them removes dead skin cells of the scalp, deeply cleanses and the scalp seems to breathe. After it, strengthening agents work much better.
  8. Once or twice a year I strengthen my hair with different serums, lotions and tonics against hair loss and to strengthen the hair. I do this in parallel with taking vitamins inside, the result is not long in coming.
  9. I do not comb wet hair, but slightly damp and with special combs. Also, you do not need to comb and touch them often. It is better to comb your hair well in front of the head wash, then after washing it will not be so tangled.
  10. I use only clean combs, otherwise the remains of conditioners, modeling agents and sebum will get on the hair. It is advisable to wash the combs once a week with a mild shampoo, and wipe the iron and stylers with alcohol.
  11. I hide my hair from the cold and the heat. In winter, it is imperative to wear a hat, and in summer to protect from ultraviolet radiation, so that they would not be damaged even without that.
  12. I do not use thin elastic bands and metal hairpins, they strongly pull hair and they can break off. At night, I do not braid a tight pigtail, and also regularly trim the ends of my hair.

Sometimes I do courses homemade oil masks for hair or just rub in warm oil at night, and in the morning my head. I use olive oil, broccoli, coconut, cocoa, jojoba, linseed, sesame oil, these are the oils that I liked and I continue to use them. I apply oils only on the length of the hair, since they can clog the pores of the scalp, especially burdock, coconut, jojoba, so after visiting the trichologist I no longer do this, and I apply essential oils in the composition of the masks to the scalp.

How to choose products for curly hair?

Curly hair is the most difficult to choose from because it is fragile, unruly, dry in length, and the scalp can be oily.

Strengthening hair

Choosing a shampoo for curly hair

It is very difficult to find the perfect shampoo, I would even say that it does not exist. But, you can still find a shampoo that works for your hair type, although this can only be done by trial and error. Shampoo is the first and foremost step to healthy hair. The shampoo should be selected depending on the condition of the scalp (oily, dry, sensitive). If the hair is too dry and porous, shampoos with silicones for dry, damaged hair are suitable, it is better to choose professional brands; also for curly hair, series with herbs, plant extracts and special series for curly hair are suitable. You should not choose series for volume, smoothing or for shine, hair curl is lost with them.

Do not wash all your hair with shampoo, just soap the roots, and when you wash off the shampoo from your head, it will flow through your hair and rinse the length of your hair.

Do not forget about shampoo for deep cleansing of hair and scalp. Use once every two weeks deep cleansing shampooto wash everything that has accumulated from your hair: cosmetics, dirt, silicones, styling products. After such a shampoo, all masks work much better on the hair.

It is ideal to have several shampoos in your arsenal (neutral, for frequent use; acidic shampoo with a low pH level up to 6 - it is good for damaged hair; and one alkaline shampoo (pH greater than 7) for deep cleansing of the scalp and hair).

The water for shampooing should be at a comfortable temperature, at the end you can rinse with cool water to smooth the scales.

Conditioner for frizzy, frizzy hair

When caring for curly hair, you need to use a conditioner or mask after each wash. The main purpose of the conditioner is to cover the cortex flakes and make the hair easier to comb. Conditioner will not solve hair problems, since this is not part of his duties, it acts only on the external level, so you should not spend a lot of money on conditioners, it is better to buy a mask at a higher price. But this does not mean that you can take the cheapest one, for example, professional conditioners act on hair many times better than conditioners from the mass market. You can pay attention to the regenerating, nourishing and moisturizing series.

Mask is an obligatory step in the care of curls.

In winter, I would recommend using regenerating and nourishing masks from them, the effect will be better, and in the summer, if there are no special problems with your hair, you can switch to moisturizing masks. Once every two weeks, after a deep cleansing shampoo, you can make a heat cap from a mask. Take a good restorative purchased mask, apply it to damp (towel-dried) hair, insulate it with plastic wrap and a woolen hat, make an insulating cap, and warm it all up with a hairdryer, then warm it up for 5-8 minutes and let it cool for another 15 minutes, then rinse well with running water ... The mask penetrates the hair itself better this way and nourishes it.

Leave-in care - a panacea for curly hair

The choice of indelible products is huge - oils, serums, creams, fluids, crystals, lotions, lotions, they prevent split ends, give the hair elasticity, softness, shine, give the styling completeness, curly hair is a must! They can be applied to damp hair after shampooing, or to dry hair as needed, all of these leave-in products give curls a well-groomed look.

Do not forget also about thermal protection for curly hair if you blow dry or straighten with an iron. It is better to choose thermal protection from professional brands, this is the tool on which you should not save, especially if you are straightening your hair. And avoid products in which alcohol is in the first place, it gives stiffness to the hair and they will stick out in different directions, give preference to thermal protection in the form of a cream.

From experience I will say that you should immediately try professional cosmetics (I came to this one myself), some kind of mask, such cosmetics have a more successful result, because the components are all of high quality. and what they sell in supermarkets is completely unsuitable for restoration.
