Proper care for colored hair

How to restore colored hair

Any type of hair requires care, especially colored hair, which requires special gentle care. After dyeing, the hair is damaged in any case, it all depends on the degree of damage: how gentle or aggressive paint you have chosen. Even professional paints of the most famous world brands contain ingredients that have a minimal, but still aggressive effect on the hair structure.

Hair care of any type consists of three basic principles:

1. Constancy (you cannot take care of your hair for three months, and then throw it on for several years and want healthy and beautiful hair at the same time).

2. Consistency (if you decide to peel your scalp once every two weeks, then you need to do, or once a week use a deep cleansing shampoo, or homemade masks, or a course of hair strengthening, that is, always stick to regularity in your hair care).

3. Complexity (if you want to restore, strengthen your hair, then you need to use not only external means, but also nourish the hair from the inside: vitamins, minerals, proper nutrition, sports, that is, it is important to take a comprehensive approach to any hair problem).

If you adhere to these three basic principles in hair care, then they will always delight you with beauty and health!

When you dye your hair, the integrity of the outer layer of the hair is violated, the dye lifts the hair scales in order to penetrate the hair structure and color it. Moreover, after staining, the scales will no longer adhere as tightly as before staining. After dyeing, the hair becomes weak and defenseless against any negative effects on it (hairdryer, curling iron, styling products, dust, dirt, ultraviolet light). Therefore, immediately after dyeing, the main task of the owner of colored hair should be smoothing the scales, that is, restoring the hair and maintaining the saturation of the hair color. Try to dye your hair completely (from roots to ends) no more than twice a year.

Hair care immediately after dyeing

Caring for colored hairAny hair dye has an alkaline medium that penetrates the hair structure and changes it. The remnants of this alkali remain on the hair and scalp for a long time (more than a month) and all this time it continues to destroy the hair from the inside.

Therefore, it is very important to adhere to the recommendations immediately after staining:

- Washing hair immediately after dyeing should take place with a special shampoo and conditioner (these products are used only once, immediately after dyeing and it is better that it was the same manufacturer as the dye), which neutralize the alkali in the hair and scalp, while still good close the hair cuticle, thereby fixing the color.

- Try not to wash your hair for two days, so that the dye is fixed in the hair structure.

- Immediately after staining, it is not advisable to visit the pool, sauna.

- Do not straighten hair with an iron or curl with a curling iron immediately after dyeing, because exposure to high temperatures has a very detrimental effect on newly dyed hair, further damaging it.

Five tips for caring for colored hair

1. Nourish the hair from the inside, especially immediately after dyeing, because it needs additional nutrition and strengthening:

- drink 1.5-2 liters of clean water per day (hair will not be so dry, more nourished and a natural shine appears);

- balance your diet: eat less fatty, smoked, fried, and try more to eat vegetables, fruits (especially seasonal), cereals;

- drink a course of vitamins for hair, today in pharmacies there is a huge selection of various vitamin and mineral complexes and dietary supplements to solve many hair problems;

- do homemade, homemade vitamins for hair and the whole organism, which will no worse nourish and strengthen the hair from the inside than various dietary supplements for hair.

2. Take care of the scalp, because after dyeing it suffers no less than the hair, itching, dryness or even dandruff may appear:

- moisturize the scalp with oil (in pure form or as part of a mask), olive oil, sesame oil, camellia, jojoba, argan oil are suitable for colored hair;

- to make folk homemade masks for the scalp, in terms of effectiveness, they are not inferior to purchased ones, and sometimes even better;

- if, after dyeing, the hair began to fall out intensively, you can strengthen it with different serums, lotions, tonic to strengthen the roots and from hair loss;

- do not forget about deep cleansing of the scalp with purchased scrubs or do home peeling from sea salt (once in two weeks).

3. Choosing a shampoo and washing your hair. The gentle care system for colored hair begins with a gentle wash:

- shampoo should be chosen from a series for colored hair or for damaged, weakened hair (it is better to give preference to professional brands). It is advisable to have in your arsenal several types of shampoo (for frequent use and for deep cleaning);

- use shampoo for deep cleaning once every two weeks (to wash everything that has accumulated from the hair: cosmetics, dirt, silicones). After such a shampoo, all masks work much better on the hair;

- wash your hair with warm water, because hot water does not have the best effect on the structure of healthy hair, what can we say about dyed hair (they immediately fade);

- do not wash all your hair with shampoo, just soap the roots, and when you wash off the shampoo from your head, it will flow through your hair and rinse the length of your hair. Do not rub your hair forcibly from side to side, this will only complicate further brushing.

4. Care for the length of colored hair. Recovery, nutrition and hydration are the main components of additional care for colored hair:

- after each wash, use a balm or hair conditioner, which should be applied along the entire length, slightly stepping back from the roots, leave them for a few minutes and then rinse the hair thoroughly with water again. The use of balms and conditioners reduces the appearance of split ends and makes the hair shinier (smoothes hair scales);

- twice a week, apply a good (professional) restorative or nourishing hair mask, leaving it for about half an hour (you can still warm it up and warm it up with a hairdryer for 5-10 minutes, and walk for another 20 minutes so that it cools down, so the mask penetrates deeper into itself hair);

- fall in love with indelible restorative agents (spray, conditioner, cream), they act immediately on the hair, facilitate combing, protect against dryness and damage;

- rinse hair with herbs (oak bark, nettle, sage - if dark hair, as well as chamomile, calendula, hop cones, burdock, sage), herbs perfectly strengthen the hair;

- use indelible products in your care: oils, serums, creams, fluids, crystals, they will not only visually transform hair (give smoothness and shine), some of them are able to protect hair from dryness, damage and heat exposure during drying, reduce the section of the ends hair;

- it is imperative to hide your hair from the cold (after dyeing, the hair is very weakened and temperature changes exhaust them even more), it is imperative to wear a hat in winter;

- in summer, it is imperative to protect hair from ultraviolet radiation, it dries hair and at the same time the color fades faster. Hair needs protection from sunlight and heat no less than from cold frost. If you spend a significant amount of time under the sun, be sure to wear a hat, as well as use thermal protective equipment, many of which protect from ultraviolet radiation. Choosing shampoos and masks for the summer, give preference to products marked with Sun and SPF.

5. Styling colored hair.The most gentle hair styling is its natural drying, but modern girls very rarely can afford it, and so:

- after washing, the hair swells from moisture and it is at this moment that they are most vulnerable to external influences, therefore, wet hair must be handled very carefully. Do not comb wet hair, but slightly damp and special combs. Also, you do not need to comb and touch them often. It is better to comb your hair well in front of the head wash, then after washing it will not be so tangled;

- try to exclude or minimize the use of a hair dryer, ironing, but if it does not work, then use good thermal protection. Also, do not dry your hair with too hot air and very close to the hair, you can dry your hair by about 80%, and then let it dry naturally;

- if you dry your hair with a hairdryer, then the movements of the brush should be directed only from the roots to the ends of the hair, then the scales of the hair fall into place, which will give the hair shine;

- be sure to use a heat protectant (cream, spray or oil that prevents the hair from overheating) before drying with a hairdryer, iron and curling iron (pay attention to the composition so that there are components that prolong the color fastness, as well as oils that will take care of the length) ;

- if the hair is long, it is better to braid it, especially at night. Do not use thin elastic bands and metal hairpins, they strongly pull hair and they can break off.

- Trim the ends of your hair regularly, they will be less tangled and look healthier.

    I have been dyeing my hair for more than 10 years, to be honest, I even forgot what my native color is and how I look with it. And since I want my hair to look beautiful all the time, so that it shines and the color does not appear dull, I certainly use professional shampoos for colored hair. They allow hair to remain beautiful and well-groomed. They shine, especially when the rays of the sun fall on them. well, those girls who do not care for dyed hair simply doomed themselves to the fact that their hair looks like straw.

    Thank you for such good advice. Only yesterday I dyed myself dark chestnut with light brown, so I immediately started looking for information on proper care after the color change.

  3. Lera

    Good advice, thank you. I myself use an egg mask when I'm not lazy - it really helps to make the hair brighter and softer. By the way, girls, the beauty of dyed hair largely depends on the dye itself, so you shouldn't save on it. Well, if you are afraid of chemistry - henna will help you. And drink vitamins for your hair, especially in the fall and winter.
